Land of fire and ice

Volcanoes, mountains, glaciers, geysers, lava fields, hot springs… natural wonders certainly aren’t in short supply in Iceland. The spectacular island, which hovers just below the Arctic Circle, is one of the most geologically active places in the world. What’s more, in the winter months, it’s one of your best bets for catching a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights.

The Great Outdoors

There are a million and one ways to get hands on here. One of the most popular daytrips is the Golden Circle, a 300-kilometre circuit which takes in mammoth waterfalls, tectonic ridge zones, and planet earth’s original geyser. Another must-do is the Blue Lagoon – a huge geothermal hot tub, whose waters hover around a toasty 37 degrees.

The world’s most northerly capital city blends traditional charm with cosmopolitan style. Corrugated iron houses are painted in every colour of the rainbow, independent restaurants serve world-class cuisine, and hip bars and clubs ensure Reykjavik lives up to its party town reputation.

Excursions Included

To help you experience Iceland at its best, all our holidays include a day-long Golden Circle tour and a Northern Lights trip. We also throw in all your transfers to and from the hotel. Check out the itinerary below for all the details.

Day 1

Depending on your arrival time, you can join the Reykjavik City Tour to get your bearings of the capital city. And in the evening, you can search the skies for the famous Northern Lights. Please check with your hotel reception at 6pm to check whether the tour is operating. When the weather forecast is favourable, you’ll be picked up from your hotel about 9pm, with the tour starting at 9:30pm. You’ll spend a few hours looking for the Aurora Borealis. But if the weather isn’t great, we’ll reschedule your Northern Lights Tour for another night, when you’ll hopefully have a better chance of seeing them. In the meantime, you can experience the nightlife of Reykjavik instead.

Day 2

Discover the sights of the Golden Circle on your second day. This 300-kilometre circuit takes a whole day to navigate, so we’ll pick you up from 8:30am for a 9am start. You can explore Thingvellir National Park, which spans the border between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This World Heritage Site is also home to Iceland’s largest lake. Your tour then takes you on to Gullfoss – a huge glacial waterfall – and an active geyser, Strokkur. Since you’re out all day, your lunch will be included. And we’ll drop you back at your hotel by 4:30pm.

Day 3

It’s up to you how you spend the third day. Why not book an additional excursion and go snowmobiling, explore the inside of a glacier, or have a soak in the mystical Blue Lagoon? There are also whale-watching trips and a 4×4 Mountain Super Jeeps tour. Or you can spend some time in colourful Reykjavik, where you’ll find seafood restaurants, one-of-a-kind microbreweries, and multi-million-pound Harpa concert hall.

Day 4

If you’ve booked an extra night in Iceland, you’ll have even more time to explore. You can take a quad bike ride, or try Icelandic dishes at a Viking feast. If you fancy yourself as a budding photographer, join the South Shore Tour and take some photos of the dramatic landscape. Just so you know, some excursions are only available to book in resort.

Please Note: Since the Northern Lights are a weather-dependent natural phenomenon, their appearance cannot be guaranteed. Your Northern Lights Tour is scheduled to take place on the evening you arrive. However, if the weather isn’t great and your tour is cancelled, or the Lights don’t show during your tour, we’ll reschedule your tour for another night, when you’ll hopefully have a better opportunity to see them. We aim to send you on the tour at least once during your holiday. If for any reason adverse weather affects the operation of other excursions, then we will always do our best to try and reschedule these at some point during your stay.
